PANTOTHENIC ACID

Function:
Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) functions as a component of coenzyme A and another enzyme both of which are involved in fatty acid metabolism as well as many other processes essential for energy production.

Recommended Dietary Allowance:
For both men and women 5 mg per day.

Deficiency:
Deficiency is unknown except in experimental conditions.

Sources:
Meats, legumes and whole grain cereals are good sources.

Toxicity and UL:
There are no known adverse effects from pantothenic acid intake, hence no UL.

Recommendation:
Supplementation is not necessary.
