Function:
Molybdenum is needed for the function of a limited number
of enzymes.
Recommended
Dietary Allowance:
45 mcg per day for both men and women.
Deficiency:
Deficiency in humans is unknown except in a rare genetic
defect and in a few patients on total intravenous nutrition.
It is on this basis it is considered essential. There has
been no success in producing deficiency in animals.
Sources:
Food
sources include legumes, grain products, and nuts.
Toxicity
and UL:
The UL is 2 mg based on studies showing impaired reproduction
and growth in animals at high levels of chronic intake.
Recommendation:
There
is no need for supplementation.
